Andrew Pitts Relief Fund

Dear Readers,

If you read my post this morning. . .

http://krusereportersblog.com/2012/06/15/tragedy-strikes-the-chicago-reporting-community-please-read/

. . .then I know the phrase running through your mind echos mine, There but for the grace of God go I.

Just moments ago I was able to speak with Andrew’s wife, Nohemi, to get her permission to make this post so you all have a name to associate with this tragedy.  The man in the Tribune article, the man in the video link, the man in my blog is none other than Chicago’s own Andrew Pitts, husband to Nohemi Salazar-Pitts, father of two adorable tots, court reporter, friend to all.

Nohemi and Andrew will require a lot of support to get through this awful tragedy.  Currently, he is on a respirator with pneumonia, but he can wiggle his toes and fingers and is responding appropriately to questions by medical staff!!!  But you and I know the truth — he won’t be reporting any proceedings on Monday morning.  And neither will Nohemi, a working reporter and mother, because she’ll be giving that all-important care that Andrew needs right now.

Because they are going to require financial support to get through this — two reporters NOT working? — I have set up the following fund through PNC Bank:

The Andrew Pitt Relief Fund, c/o Kruse & Associates, 180 North LaSalle Street, Suite 3700, Chicago, Illinois, 60606.   Currently, their account has been established as a subaccount of Kruse & Associates, but with the help of some wonderful attorneys and accountants, we hope to have a separate account established by the middle of next week for Nohemi to access directly.  For speedier donations to provide immediate relief, I have a merchant services account that you can make credit card donations to.  Please contact me directly if you wish to make a credit card donation until I can link it to the site early next week.  312.345.1500.  (This is nontax deductible donation that will go straight to the benefit of the Pitts family.)

All donations will receive a letter of acknowledgement from me on Nohemi’s behalf and I will turn those acknowledgements over the Andrew and Nohemi as they’re received so they know it’s you!

This Father’s Day weekend, think about making a donation in your dad’s name to a father who really needs it.  What a wonderful gift from your dad to the father of Sebastion, 4, and Karina, 3!

On behalf of Nohemi Salazar-Pitts, Andrew Pitts and the entire Pitts family, I extend their heartfelt gratitude for your prayers, your love, your support and your donations.

About Margie Kruse

I am a court reporter. A keeper of the record. A fly on the wall. For over a quarter century, I have had a front-row seat in legal proceedings -- private depositions, public trials, town hall meetings! And just when I think I've heard it all, I am proven wrong! What most people don't know about court reporters is that while we seem stoic and hyper efficient, we have ears and eyes and a brain in between. But we cloak our emotions, stifling our laughter. . .and our tears. . .as we make the record. This interactive blog is dedicated to my reporting peers, a place where we can share or courtroom chaos and other fun tales! So grab your favorite beverage, put your keyboard on your lap and feel free to blog along while, together, we record history as we see it! You never know, you might recognize your own story published in Court Reporting Chaos! -The Ink Slinger
